No time for yeasted dough? This two-ingredient pizza dough takes 15 minutes.
Every Friday is Pizza Friday at my house, so I would say I know my way around a pizza pan. My go-to recipe is a no-knead yeasted dough that requires a six-hour rise, so if I forget to make the dough in the morning, we’re out of luck come dinnertime. So when I heard there was a way to make pizza dough with just two ingredients and no rise time, I was intrigued—and, admittedly, more than a little skeptical. Turns out you really can make a tasty (and high-protein!) pizza crust out of just Greek yogurt and self-rising flour.
This two-ingredient pizza dough recipe results in a pizza crust with a perfectly chewy texture—soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. The next time Pizza Friday rolls around, I just might have a new go-to pizza dough.
Ingredients for Two-Ingredient Pizza Dough
Greek yogurt: For the best flavor and softest dough texture, opt for whole or 2% Greek yogurt. Nonfat Greek yogurt will work in a pinch.
Self-rising flour: The key to this two-ingredient pizza dough recipe is self-rising flour. This flour blend contains salt and baking powder, which acts as a leavener in lieu of the yeast found in most pizza dough recipes.
Garlic butter: Melted butter is combined with minced garlic, then brushed onto the pizza dough to add a savory flavor at the base of the pizza.
Pizza sauce: The key to pizza that isn’t soggy is not using too much pizza sauce! This recipe calls for just 1/2 cup of sauce, which is spread into a thin layer on the dough. Use your favorite pizza sauce brands. If you don’t have one, my go-to is Classico Pizza Sauce.
Shredded mozzarella cheese: You’ll need one cup of shredded mozzarella cheese for this pizza recipe. Grate the cheese yourself for the best flavor; but store-bought shredded mozzarella will also work.
Directions
Step 1: Make the dough
Preheat the oven to 500°F. In a large bowl, combine the self-rising flour and Greek yogurt until they come together to form a shaggy dough ball.
Step 2: Knead the dough
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for 8 to 10 minutes or until it’s soft and elastic. Add more flour as needed to prevent the dough from sticking.
Use your fingers to press the dough into a 12-inch circle, then carefully transfer it to a lightly greased pizza pan or baking sheet.
Step 3: Make the garlic butter
Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and cook it, stirring frequently, until it’s fragrant, about 30 to 60 seconds. Brush the garlic butter onto the pizza dough, starting with the edges then covering the entire pizza.
Step 4: Add the remaining pizza toppings
Spread the pizza sauce in an even layer. Sprinkle it with mozzarella cheese and any other toppings, as desired.
Step 5: Bake the pizza
Bake the pizza for 10 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted. Let the pizza cool, then slice it.
Two-Ingredient Pizza Dough Variations
Try other toppings: The world is your oyster when it comes to pizza toppings. Top your pie with your favorite meats, whether that’s sausage, pepperoni or even barbecue chicken. Use a white pizza sauce or pesto in place of tomato sauce. And, of course, don’t forget veggies like bell peppers, olives, mushrooms or fresh tomato slices.
Flavor the dough: Add flavor to the dough by stirring in a teaspoon of garlic powder, dried oregano or Italian seasoning.
