Making this peaches and cream margarita is a delicious way to celebrate peach season.
It’s hard to beat the flavor of a ripe and juicy peach on a hot summer day. The fuzzy, sweet and fragrant fruit tastes like the epitome of summertime! While we love to eat peaches just as they are, there are plenty of sweet, savory and even boozy recipes with fresh peaches. Our peaches and cream margarita recipe in particular combines a classic margarita with flavorful peach puree and luscious heavy cream to make a drink that’s reminiscent of the vintage dessert.
Peaches and Cream Margarita Ingredients
Peach puree: Nearly any type of peach, including yellow or white, will work in this recipe. To make enough puree for a single peaches and cream cocktail, you will need about 1/2 cup peeled and sliced peaches, combined with a single tablespoon of water. If it’s not quite peach season, don’t worry: You can easily make this tasty peaches and cream cocktail with frozen peaches vs. fresh too!
Tequila: The best tequila for a margarita is an agave-forward blanco (white) tequila.
Orange liqueur: The best orange liqueur to use in a margarita is either triple sec or Cointreau (which is a specific brand of triple sec).
Lime juice: For the best flavor, use freshly squeezed lime juice. Save the spent lime rinds to moisten the edge of the serving glass for the salt rim.
Heavy cream: The creaminess in this peaches and cream cocktail comes from heavy cream. Substitute an equal amount of coconut milk for a dairy-free cocktail.
Agave syrup: Agave syrup adds sweetness to each sip. You may not need as much syrup if your peaches are particularly ripe and sweet.
Peach slice: The appropriate cocktail garnish for a peaches and cream margarita is a peach slice.
Coarse salt: What’s a margarita without a salt rim? Of course, you can skip it if you’re not a fan. Or, for a sweet variation, rim the glass with sugar instead of salt.
Directions
Step 1: Make the peach puree
To make the peach puree, add the peach slices and water to a blender and blend until evenly pureed. Reserve 2 tablespoons peach puree for the margarita, and store the remainder for another use.
Editor’s Tip: Depending on the juiciness of your peaches, you may not need to use water at all—or you may need to use some more. Aim for a syrup-like consistency.
Step 2: Make the cocktail
Brush the edge of a rocks glass with lime juice, and rim with coarse salt. Set aside.
Add the tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, agave syrup, heavy cream and 2 tablespoons peach puree to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds or until well-chilled.
Step 3: Garnish and serve
Fill the salt-rimmed rocks glass with ice. Pour in the cocktail. Garnish with a peach slice and serve.
Peaches and Cream Margarita Variations
Make it schnappy: Lean into the peach flavor by using peach schnapps in place of the orange liqueur.
Try a frozen margarita: For a frozen peaches and cream margarita, use frozen peach slices and combine all the cocktail ingredients in a blender, adding enough ice to achieve the consistency you prefer. Cover and process until blended.
Add some spice: Give your peaches and cream cocktail a little heat by adding a sprinkle of chili powder or a few thin slices of jalapeno pepper to the shaker. Or, mix a pinch of chili powder or cayenne pepper into the coarse salt before rimming the glass.
How to Store Peach Puree
Any extra peach puree can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container so that you can make peaches and cream margaritas at a moment’s notice. After all, these creamy margaritas are best served fresh because of the combined dairy and citrus elements.
