Depression Era Salad

1.Place the shredded cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, and onion in a large mixing bowl.
2.In a small saucepan, combine vinegar, sugar, oil, salt, and pepper. Heat gently until the sugar dissolves, then remove from heat.
3.Pour the warm dressing over the vegetables. Mix well to coat evenly.
4.Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or overnight) to let the flavors blend.
5.Serve chilled as a refreshing side dish.
